Spiral Wound Metallic Gaskets

ASME b16 20 Wound Metal Flange Gasket

Spiral Wound Gasket

Metallic wound gaskets for pipe flanges.

Strength and resiliency are the hallmarks of spiral wound gaskets which are a popular choice for an array of conditions and applications. These gaskets are extensively used in such environments as refineries and chemical processing plants as well as power generation, aerospace, and many specialized applications.

Standard Spiralwound Profiles:

Spiral Wound Profile R

Type R

Basic construction. I.D. and O.D are reinforced with several plies of metal without filler to provide better stability and compression characteristics. Suitable for tongue & groove, or male and female, or grooved to flat face flange assemblies.

Spiral Wound Profile R-IR

Type R-IR

A solid inner ring of metal works as a compression stop and fills the ring space between the flange bore and inside diameter. This prevents accumulation of solids, reduces the flow turbulence of process fluids and minimizes erosion of flange faces. Suitable for male and female pipe flanges.

Spiral Wound Profile CG

Type CG

An external ring is utilized to accurately center the gasket on flange face. Additional radial strength to prevents blowout and provides a compression stop. This gasket is general purpose and is suitable for both flat raised face flanges. For Class 900 and above an internal ring is recommended.

Spiral Wound Profile CG-IR

Type CG-IR

A 'CG' gasket fitted with internal ring that provides more compression limitation and acts also as a heat and corrosion barrier that protects the gasket's windings, and reduces erosion on the flange. Compatible with both flat and raised face flanges. This configuration specified for high pressure/temperature environments (class 900 or above or where corrosive or toxic media are present.)

Spiral Wound Profile CG-RJ

Type CG-RJ

This gasket is designed for use in standard ring joint flanges. The outer ring is sized to cover the ring joint grooves and stop the spiral winding portion from entering the groove.

** Should be used only for maintenance / repair.

Spiral Wound Profile HX-R

Type HX-R

'HX' gaskets are for heat exchangers where pass bars (ribs) are required. The outer portion is of standard spiral wound construction, whereas the rib portion is normally of single or double jacketed style, securely fastened to the ID of the spiral wound portion.

Spiral Wound Profile HX-R-IR

Type HX-R-IR

The 'HX-RIR' is a variation of 'RIR' gasket and was developed for use on heat exchanger TEMA type flange arrangements. In conjunction with an inner ring, the standard spiral wound construction also supports an outer wound steel nose, designed for the purpose of accurate gasket location. Available with or without pass partition bars.

Most Common Installation Configurations:

Spiral wound gasket makers are presently changing over to a new specification set that covers spiral wound gaskets. The previous standard was API 601 which has been replaced by ASME B16.20.
